Atlas of Thoracoscopic Anatomical Pulmonary Subsegmentectomy provides an in-depth and comprehensive overview and guidance on anatomical pulmonary subsegmentectomy, from both theoretical and technical perspectives. The book is divided in two parts: Part I is dedicated to theoretical background of surgery, including surgical subsegmental anatomy, CT three-dimensional reconstruction of pulmonary structures, surgical techniques, and perioperative patient management. Part II presents more than 40 kinds of subsegmentectomies of the left and right lungs, both upper and lower lobes. As the rapid development of three-dimensional computed tomographic images has made it possible to provide more refined individualized anatomic details, and has consequently enabled advances in pulmonary subsegmentectomy, this book is a valuable resource to thoracic surgeons and physicians interested in thoracic surgery and mini-invasive surgical approaches in the thorax. Features complete coverage of all aspects of thoracoscopic anatomical pulmonary subsegmentectomy, from theory to practice Presents more than 40 kinds of subsegmentectomies of the left and right lungs, both upper and lower lobes Includes videos of 3D models and operations

Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence has been used for imaging purposes for more than half a century; First employed by ophthalmologists for visualizing the retinal artery in the late 1960s, the application of ICG fluorescence imaging has since been continuously expanded. Recently, advances in imaging technologies have led to renewed attention regarding the use of ICG in the field of hepatobiliary surgery, as a new tool for visualizing the biliary tree and liver tumors.

Advances in CT have enabled us to detect small lung cancers, which has changed the lung cancer surgery from lobectomy to a lesser lobar resection such as a segmentectomy or wedge resection. While wedge resection is a simple procedure, it has a higher risk of local recurrence of cancer than a lobectomy. On the other hand, segmentectomy is a well known curative surgery for small lung cancers. However, it is difficult to perform accurately because of its anatomical complexity, which makes surgeons hesitant to use it. The book “Illustrated Anatomical Segmentectomy for Lung Cancer” provides readers a detailed explanation of segmentectomy with numerous easy-to-understand color illustrations showing the precise segmental anatomies for each pattern of the procedure. To better illustrate an accurate anatomical segmentectomy, the text shows details of anatomy during segmentectomy. This can involve up to 25 patterns, each of which is shown in roughly 10 illustrations.

This book presents a comprehensive overview and outlook for the future of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence navigation surgery, which is attracting clinical interest as a safe and less invasive procedure not only in detecting cerebral vessels, coronary arteries, and biliary trees, but also in identifying sentinel lymph nodes in cancer. The book starts with the characteristics of ICG and photodynamic cameras/endoscopes, followed by detailed descriptions of the applications of ICG fluorescence imaging in various areas such as ocular surgery, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, and plastic surgery. It also covers identifying sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer as well as cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, and provides valuable information for hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgeons, such as identifying tattooing of liver segments and bile leakage. Written entirely by experts in their respective areas, ICG Fluorescence Imaging and Navigation Surgery offers an essential resource for surgeons operating on cancers and vascular disorders in the brain and cardiovascular systems and in plastic surgery.

This book describes the diagnoses; staging and management of patients with colorectal liver metastases initially considered unresectable and portrays the different strategies to increase resectability along with their tactics and tricks. Colorectal carcinoma is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world and according to recent cancer statistics around 1.23 million patients are diagnosed each year. Of these patients, approximately 50% will develop liver metastases during the course of their disease and around 15-25% are found to have stage IV disease at diagnosis. Liver resection has been recognized as the treatment of choice for these patients, offering overall 5-year survival rates of up to 50-60% and the only hope for cure. However, at diagnosis only 10-20% of these patients are possibly amenable to surgical resection with curative intent. The possibility to achieve an R0 resection is many times limited by the amount and quality of the future liver remnant (FLR), being posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) the most feared and severe complication after major liver resections. With the years, diverse strategies have been developed with the intention to increase resectability by increasing the future liver remnant and/or reducing tumor size, e.g. ALPPS. Along with these techniques, associated surgeries are developed including multivisceral resections, which broadens even more the resectability for patients.

This book summarizes the branch tracing method for bronchoscopic diagnosis. Cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses are essential to making prognoses and selecting appropriate treatment for peripheral pulmonary lesions, notably lung cancer. In order to collect cell and tissue samples from peripheral pulmonary lesions for cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses, exfoliative cytodiagnosis and biopsy under bronchoscopy with endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) are currently used worldwide. Bronchial Branch Tracing highlights how to identify the bronchial branches that lead to peripheral pulmonary lesions and offers a valuable guide for all respiratory physicians, as well as surgeons, who frequently perform bronchoscopies, helping them understand the method and improve their technique.

This book represents a head-to-toe guide for clinicians who are interested in applying real-time near infrared (NIR) imaging for their patients. Expert surgeons from around the globe share their experience with NIR imaging, most commonly performed using indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence. The chapters are structured to include a brief background, indications for use, followed by a technical description of the procedure. Each chapter is also accompanied by video examples and detailed information about necessary equipment, drug dosing, and alternative techniques. A pitfalls section serves as a “lessons learned” segment to bookend each chapter. Authors represent a comprehensive list of surgical subspecialties ranging from neurosurgery to plastic surgery. While it is not meant to serve as an exhaustive summary of ICG use in surgery, the goal is to highlight the successful use of this technology in a number of settings. As the technology and applications continue to expand, Video Atlas of Intraoperative Applications of Near Infrared Fluorescence Imaging serves as a foundation upon which to build.
